Justice Stakeholders Welcome Judge Ikit to Moroto

On Wednesday August24, 2022, justice stakeholders gathered at Mount Moroto Hotel to formally welcome the first Resident Judge in Moroto, Hon. Lady Justice Mary Ikit.
The Judge was received by Moroto Chief Magistrate, HW Emmy Sayekwo alongside the Resident District Commissioner, District Police Commander, Mayor, advocates, members of the civil society, Regional Human Rights Commission Officer, UPDF Commander Moroto, the Chief Administrative Officer among others.
The stakeholders pledged to support the Judge in the administration of justice in the High Court circuit.
Moroto Mayor, Mr Muhammad Asif, pledged to ensure that the district allocates the Judiciary land for the construction of a High Court.
Prior to the engagement with stakeholders, Hon. Lady Justice Ikit was taken on a guided tour of Moroto Prison where she was welcomed by the OC, SP Latif Mayamba. In his brief to the Judge, the OC shared the challenges he had encountered of transporting accused persons on capital offences to Soroti for sessions.
He thanked the Judiciary administration for giving Moroto a Resident Judge who will improve physical access to justice.
The Judge thanked SP Mayamba for bringing to the fore issues affecting the inmates as well as the prison authorities in as far as access to justice is concerned. And added that she has an open door policy.
She also thanked the justice actors within the Circuit for the warm reception.
